Ms. Wiens,
Do we have to do the homework from the lab?

You are responsible for the material for the test Thursday but it will not be a marked homework assignment.

Q 5: List some practical applications of how chromatography might be used. (you'll need to do a bit of research)

Ms. Wiens,
How does the second law of thermodynamics relate to photosynthesis and cellular respiration?

Ms. Wiens, do we have to know about C-4 photosynthesis?

Lina said...

Also, what exactly do you want us to know about G3P and how it relates to sugars?

Lina,
During the process, not all of the energy is converted, since most of it is lost as heat (transformation law 2)

No you do not need to know about C-4 or CAM Pathways.

G3P is both a final product of the Calvin cycle and used to regenerate RuBP. G3P can be used to make glucose or starch if sugar is not needed.

Second law relates to Entropy J not heat. For Cellular Respiration this is easy as it is catabolic process. For Photosynthesis - an anabolic process this is a bit more complex. Photosynthesis creates order on Earth at the expense of greater disorder on the Sun and the only way it is possible on Earth is it is coupled with energy yielding reactions.
