Space, Space, Space

If you want to know more than we can cover in the classroom about space, check out this opportunity below:

You are invited to the Science Café at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, November 16, 2011, at Canada South Science City. A panel, including Windsor astronomer Randy Groundwater, physicist Dr. Bill Baylis, and Earth Scientist Dr. Phil McCausland, will highlight the technological achievements of assembling the space station, getting astronauts to it, the problems of living there, and the demands of an even more extended space odyssey to Mars.

As usual at Science Cafés, the talk is followed by discussion and refreshments. It is part of a series of Science Cafés – free discussions of important science research for the general public – held at 7:30 PM on the third Wednesday of the month from October through June in the café of Canada South Science City. The series is sponsored by the Faculty of Science at the University of Windsor.

Canada South Science City is located at 930 Marion Avenue in Windsor. For more information, visit our website www.cssciencecity.com or call (519)-973-3667.

Be sure not to miss the amazing exhibit “Living in Space” from the Canadian Space Agency during its time (October 1 to December 31, 2011) at Science City! Our poster for the exhibit is at [ http://www.cssciencecity.com/CSA_LSEnglish.pdf ] http://www.cssciencecity.com/CSA_LSEnglish.pdf
and the Space Agency description is at http://www.asc-csa.gc.ca/eng/exhibitions/living.asp ] http://www.asc-csa.gc.ca/eng/exhibitions/living.asp

Check it out with your parents and/or friends! Report back to the class on your experience for bonus marks.

ms wiens do we have to do two space inventions for the project?

Ms. Wiens im doing my science presentation all on my Mac and my voice speaking about material will also be downloaded on the laptop so i wont have to do anything except press play. Does the projector hook up by a USB cord? or another cord?

I would suggest you cover 2 inventions as there are so many, but I would rather you cover one well than two poorly.

The projector hooks up by several connections but not hdmi. I'm not sure about usb.

There is a vga cable for visual and you will need a 1 to 1 audio cable (we don't have one at the school but I have one for my speakers - though there is problems getting those to work) - bring in a usb and we will see what the options are on Monday morning.

how long does it need to be?

MsWiens said...

It must be between 2 and 3 minutes (not shorter, not longer).

For the Canadian Space Agency, is it all right if do one of the Canadian Space Agency Missions?

MsWiens said...

Yes, you can videotape your presentation and play it to the class.

The CSA missions might be covered either in costs/benefits or with inventions or with astronauts. You can mention the total number of missions, if they work with NASA, etc. but don't focus on one mission in particular.

If i do a slideshow and my voice is playing throughout the slideshow and it is 3 min. can we have a poster or some other material that we can hand in that is not part of the presentation but part of the project?

MsWiens said...

Your entire presentation including showing your visuals is 2-3 minutes.

Don't forget you will also need to hand in your rubric, your checklist and post your MC Question on the blog tomorrow.
