Science FSEs

As on your Course Information Sheet given to you on the first day of class this semester, your 30% FSE will be broken down into 3 Components - each worth 10% of your final grade.
1. Lab Exam - you will be using the bunsen burner to burn various elements, recording in a proper data table (created by you) what colour each element burns and identifying two unknowns based on their colour. You will be required to write a procedure (remember proper format is third person, past tense) and answer questions based on the lab. For example, how does the flame test lab relate to our knowledge of space?  You will be assessed on proper technique in the lab, using the bunsen burner, set up, clean up and safety. You must wear long pants and closed shoes (no sandals) for your safety during the lab. If you are not dressed appropriatley, you will not be allowed to complete the lab and will get zero.  You will be completing the lab individually. Half the class will go May 29 and half will go May 30 for Period 1 and due to the small size, everyone will complete the lab May 29 in Period 3.  If you would like to review lighting and using the Bunsen Burner, you may stay for an hour after school Friday May 25 - but you must be dressed appropriately or will not be be allowed in the lab for your safety.

2. Project - a list of projects for this semester has now been compiled and are listed in the FSE link list to the right. A detailed marking scheme for each will be available soon. Projects have been altered from last semester for a variety of reasons - most importantly was work was not completed during given class time. Work completion will be assessed at the end of each allotted project class period.

3. Final Exam - a comprehensive (everything from the start to the end) final exam that will be in the same format as your tests have been (multiple choice, possibly matching and short answer plus a reading comprehension piece) will take place on the assigned exam day. You MUST have a Scientific Calculator of your own that is not your phone. You cannot borrow from anyone else (that includes teachers).

Hii, so in the links area, it says "general overview of FSE's and then it says fse tutorial rubric.... is the FSE tutorial rubric one of the options , or do we have to do that ALONG with whatever fse project we decide to do ?

FSE Tutorial is one of the options for your 10% Project Component.
