Tuesday

Period 1
Reviewed How to Charge a Pith Ball by Conduction
Compared and contrasted Static and Current Electricity
Energuide Q's 3, 4 p. 535, Q 10 p. 542 (see p. 530- 535 for background reading)
Went over review options - online (MANY links on this blog - see Friday's post, see the side Review Links, and See the Textbook Review Links (Chaperters 11-13) - remember unless it was created by me, not every single question is on material we covered, but 90% of it is) and on paper
More Textbook Review Calculations - Q 5, 11-12 p. 542
New Handout "More Electricity Review"
HMKTEST TOMORROWNews Reports due by Thursday

Period 3
Read p. 530 – 535 and Do Q 2, 4 p. 535 + Does the energuide tell you the cost of operating a device? (no)

Q 5, 10-12 (just need to do a few appliances for Q 12 – not the whole chart)
In small groups-  pith balls and electrostatic kits. Used the materials to charge rods by friction and use the electrostatic series (p. 473 text) to determine what the charge is on the rod and on the material you rubbed it with  (charging by friction).
Used the fur and the ebonite rod (dark brown/black rod) to first charge the rod, by friction, then charge the pith ball by contact (it will initially attract due to induced charge separation then it will pass the electrons from the rod to the pith ball making them both negative). Then bring the same rod back to the pith ball and observe what happens (it should repel due to like charges repelling - law of electric charge). Explain what happened and why in terms of moving charges.
Again charge the ebonite rod with the fur and test its effect on a thin stream of water (use the larger tap/sink at the front of the room). Dry the rod when finished if it got wet.

TEST TOMORROW
NEWS Report Due THURSDAY

Period 4
Finish copying the brief Ecozone note and colouring their Ecozone Map (use p. 160 text – back of the room on the windowsill)

Completed the handout “Comparing Ecozones” also using the text.
If time remains, DVD -  Earth in Balance.
HMKComplete Ecozone Map, and Comparing Ecozone handout
Posters and Soil Profiles were to be done last week
