INVASIVE SPECIES ASSIGNMENT
Good website to Start with - Government of CanadaGeneral Knowledge - 10 marks
Research the meaning of non-native, and invasive species.
Compare and Contrast these terms - How are they similar?, How are they different?
Are non-native species always detrimental to an ecosystem?
List a non-native species that is beneficial to Canada.
List a non-native species that is harmful to Ontario, Canada.
List an invasive species that is not yet here, but the government is concerned about it getting here.
What is "ballast water" and how does it relate to invasive species entering Canada?
Explain the following methods of control - biological control, mechanical control, chemical control.
Application (yes you're doing this part too) - 15 marks
Research what is Canada's plan (key word "action plan") to deal with an invasive species of your choosing an explain the plan in point form. List your URL reference for the site you got your information from.
Do you think this action plan is effective? (explain why or why not)
Find a video that shows and explains how harmful an invasive species can be (it does not have to be a Canadian Invasive Species), list the URL, and describe how this video aids your knowledge of the harmfulness of invasive species.
